A Ø20 mm shaft gets an external retaining ring and a hub gets an internal ring. Are their groove dimensions the same?
Separate ring types, separate groove dimensions
DIN 471 covers external shaft rings; DIN 472 covers internal bore rings. The manufacturer specifies each part’s groove. Rotor Clip DSH-20 has catalogue width W = 1.3 mm, whereas DHO-20 has W = 1.1 mm. At Ø30 mm the widths also differ: DSH-30 is 1.6 mm and DHO-30 is 1.3 mm.
Example: manufacturer limits at Ø20 mm
For DSH-20, Rotor Clip specifies groove diameter 18.87–19.00 mm and W = 1.3 mm (https://www.rotorclip.com/product/dsh-20/). For DHO-20 these are 21.00–21.13 mm and W = 1.1 mm (https://www.rotorclip.com/product/dho-20/). The tool reproduces these diameter limits directly. No width tolerance class is inferred from the published W value.
Nominal depth is not a depth tolerance
Nominal radial depth is t = |d1 − d2| / 2. With d1 = 20 mm and the tabulated groove diameter of 19 mm (shaft) or 21 mm (bore), t = 0.5 mm. This is not a specified depth tolerance. Actual depth limits depend on both shaft or bore tolerances and groove diameter limits. An ISO tolerance class is not assumed from the catalogue limits.
Verification by ring and size
The ten checked parts are DSH-10, DSH-20, DSH-25, DSH-30, DSH-40 and DHO-20, DHO-25, DHO-30, DHO-40, DHO-50. Each has its own Rotor Clip source link and check date in the tool. Verification covers only the groove geometry of that ring/size combination, not automatically the other ring at the same diameter. Other workshop values remain unverified. Before production, also check load capacity, material, installation and the selected manufacturer’s complete drawing.
